3  :  Online Access

The following sections describe how to access the database using a variety of clients. While the examples shown refer to the Millennium database, the same techniques can be used to query the stellar halo data using the URL http://galaxy-catalogue.dur.ac.uk:8080/StellarHalo in place of http://www.g-vo.org/Millennium. Note that currently no username or password is requried to access the stellar halo data.

The Millennium databases are made available online by the German Astrophysical Virtual Observatory (GAVO). GAVO uses an Apache Tomcat Java web server deployed on machines at the Max-Planck Institute for extraterrestrial Physics (MPE). This webserver manages user accounts for the shielded part of the database and performs all the query functions for the user.
